Please help us making some good FAQs for everyone.
If you are willing to help contact us.
Some topics:
blank page, email, images, sidebar, themes, feedburner...etc.
Thanks.
I would like to make Program Structure Manual and Flow Charts.
Which files are called from within *.php and which files are secure, /admin/*.php
.htaccess structure will have to wait as you modify it.
For Example, Categories structure in mySQL DB.
Record Number, Category Name, Order Number, Time Stamp, Category Number/or sub of Category, unique name, description.
Did I get it right ?
This would be helpful for others, I would hope.
I can do user manual too with screen prints.
Can you provide examples of what you would like a OC User manual to loook like.
Robc
Hello, Robc.
Thanks for your interest, a user manual would be really appreciate it fro the community. But right now I think we need to go step by step and first have a good FAQ system. After this FAQ we can start thinking in a kind of PDF/Manual that would be awesome!
The problem is that I never did this short of documentation, no idea :S also my time we can say that is really really little...
Keep talking and let's see if someone else wants to help!
Chema,
Where do you want the FAQS posted or sent ?
Thanks,
Robc
Send me an email I will explain you how to, ut first register as a user here: http://open-classifieds.com/wp-login.php?action=register
thanks
I think in version 1.7. It should have category counts. Other words, it shows the number of ads in each category of wpClassifieds theme.

How to display locations in listing categories.example
title location postdate countpost image
thank you!
this is not the right place for your request. please open a new thread.
*sigh* people post your questions in the right thread - there is an FAQ for you Chema.
Ok my thoughts.
Instead of considering an FAQ for 1.7, start an FAQ for OC itself. It should not matter what version of OC is used an FAQ is always useful and more than not most will be using the latest version. You could if you want have a tag for each entry to say it applies to X versions of OC.
FAQ categories that come to mind are;
Then within each category is your FAQ's and the answers to each one.
So for example in the Support and Forums you could have;
How do I request Support?
1. Please first do a search on our forums for your support request as it may have already been answered or asked already.
2. If there is post with the same support required then please post in that thread your support request.
3. If no post comes up related to your support request please make a new post, please do not post in an unrelated thread.
What information do I need to provide for support?
Please provide the following information to assist support staff and other forum users to help you;
Also remember to check your error logs, and send (copy/paste) the related entries in as well
END example FAQ's
So that is just two examples of trying to keep it simple :)
I whole heartily agree with your suggestions, except one. As someone who does update the FAQs from time-to-time, I did setup some of the topics you suggest. I was only asked to use the Forum question / answers as a FAQ development strategy. The FAQs are set to be 1.7 only once this version is released.
I also agree with you and Chema concerning the Manual as being a secondary effort behind FAQs development at this time.
I have to disagree with you concerning version option statements in the FAQs. If you were to have a screen shot of Install for Version 1.7 only, it is not the same as 1.6.4. Having a link to an older screen shot would be helpful.
I guess what it boils down to is, if it is supported then appropriate reference needs to be made that clarifies the version differences. And, you are right, this can lend to confusion if it is not conveyed properly.
Chema,
As I discussed before. This is a repeated suggestion similar in fashion made previously.
Non-Core Development Team ? :)
For real, will make my life lot easier if there's a team that deal with this stuff...
For example today I'm fixing last bugs for 1.7 release, testing it in like 5 different hostings and escenarios, writting the release notes etc...
Then I need to update the website :S, actually lot of work.
If you guys want to create a team I would be more than glad to provide all the tools you can need. A wiki for example (just in English is to difficult to bring support/docuemtation in 2 languages)
I think docuemntation, should not be in the page of open-classifieds.com using wordpress, I think should be more like a wiki and would be lot easier, no?
Also for the forum, we can have a fresh start using the forums from sourceforge or similar

Chema, whatever you decide to do keep it consistent. Unfortunately there are too many open source projects that use a variety of tools to make up the entire site and support for their solutions, and by what I read from the above your about to do the same.
What I mean is that you have a website that shows the solution and tells us about it which looks like A, then a website for forums which looks like B, then a site for code delivery that looks like C, then a site for documentation that looks like D. So you might have four different locations that are all part of the one project which I am sure from an admin point of view must be a bugger to keep up to date.
My advice, install a solution where you can have the one login to access everything you need to do all that is what you need. This will be the site itself, site content, site forums, site support, site FAQ's, downloads and so much more. There are many options to do this, I use and prefer Joomla, but you may prefer something else. Whatever it is you choose just keep it consistent and it will benefit you and the project.
GW
Ok, I think is important to...I will check the options.

Chema,
I couldn't of said it any better (but I think I already have). I agree with GM points and Joomla is best option in my opinion to bring all together. Take it from someone who has used Joomla for years when it split from Mambo, its the right choice. Joomla has different levels of Admin and will allow you to give access "like FAQs now", Articles, etc. and take away permissions as Super Administrator if needed. There are 1,000s of Joomla extensions to pick from.
I have a project and its not open source and I do not want to let others dive in and change it as I have worked on this concept for years. Its my baby but, OC is open source and you can't be like me. Joomla is No. 1 as they used the best ideas from talentened people. Ubuntu created one of the biggest communities and has hurt Microsoft more than any company. People letting other people have some say is - "Open Source".
However, you still have the final say if this team stays under you and your project.
And, selection of the appropriate extensions could be 1st job for Non-Core Development Team. :)
I am still not trying to push you but, I want to expand on a previous post I made about this very subject and how "Other people who are very Creative" can help you. You just need to sit down and decide what is related to your business venture, OCKAU and what is related to OC open source project.
You do not need to micro-manage this helper team. Pick what you can let others tweak, and Provide us with some working guidlines if you want. Your, the leader of these teams and i will make that point to anyone who thinks differently.
What do you think ?
Now, who's on the team.
I volunteer.
Anyone else ?
This is a good start example of Joomla site with addons.
Hi Rob,
Thanks once more ;)
I like Joomla as well, good product. Just now I'm using WP and everything seems to work quite good.
We have web page, forum (to fix the layout) and translation page (soon with the same login will work). The development is managed in the sourceforge account, since I think is best Idea.
About the roles, we can use them in WP as well ;)
I just need to sit calm and think about many stuff is going in my head, but time...god time...I really don't have it and soon I'm leaving almost for a month for holidays...to much pressure.
Of course a non core team would be absolutely awesome.
I want to hear all of you and I will use the things I think are best ;)
